Featured Video: A Game of Incursion

In the spirit of Ashes and other zombie apocalypse sci-fi, STEM Teen Read is proud to present A Game of Incursion. This student video received an honorable mention in the STEMfest Explain It! Video Competition. We at the Teen Read thought that it deserved a spotlight here because of its creative blend of science fiction and science fact. Sci-Fi Contest First Place Winner - Andy Sima's “The End of Number 6”

The space ship had been gone for one-hundred years following its launch in the spring of 2055. Although the scientific community had accepted the methods of travel used by the ship, the effects of the travel had not been accepted. No one realized that space-time did not like to be fooled around with, no matter how much it lacked a sentient mind.

Sci-Fi Contest Second Place Winner - Joseph Rathke's “The Surplus Population”

I awoke to footsteps in the hallway.

This was not unusual. My little brother, James, would oftentimes get up in the middle of the night for a glass of water, or just to walk around. But these were booted footsteps, and they were heavy. That was definitely not James.

Sci-Fi Contest Third Place Winner- Nicholas Inocencio's “Deviants”

As Isaiah walked down the pale gray streets of Chicago, he looked at the pools of yellow light cast by the dozens of street lamps. He thought of the way they made the whole world seem yellow and warm, in contrast to the cold wind for which the city was known.
